Welcome to Schuller's Kitchen!  I am Schuller and my commercial kitchen is where the magic happens.  I was born and raised in White Center WA.  Early in my baking history I took a job at The Grand Central Bakery located in Pioneer Square, Seattle.  Soon I found myself working in the newly formed bread division headed by Leslie Mackie, of Macrina Bakery fame.  I developed quite the skill and love for artisan breads and took Leslie’s advice and moved to Portland OR to attend Western Culinary Institute.  After receiving my degree I worked at several food establishments such as Anthony’s Homeport, Oregon Convention Center, Alki Bakery and finally started my own catering business.

In 1999 I opened Schuller’s Bakery in Burien, WA.  Unlike today, good food was hard to find locally so the community was quick to support the bakery and its wide variety of morning pastry, including the famous vegan cinnamon rolls, sandwiches, quiche and soups from scratch, along with the popular Friday Night Pizza.  For 4.5 years the bakery was a gathering place for friends, families, colleagues and strangers yet to meet, but trying to build the business and live a balanced life was more than I imagined so I sold it and went on to other adventures.

After many years working in the corporate world I never stopped thinking about the bakery. I knew I wanted to try it again but this time, simpler.  I’m now back to baking and Schuller’s Kitchen is here to serve the local communities with custom orders pies, quiches, cookies, cakes and most any other baked good you can think of. I also offer a bread and treat CSB program (mirroring the community supported agriculture model).  It's just me this time around, implementing the idea that you can be dedicated to a craft and have a life too, that you don't have to let your work run your life, but instead, let your life shape your trade.
